David Shaw

Students in the newspaper after-school activity interviewed Mr. David Shaw ahead of his retirement for The Academy Chronicle. Read about him here!

Our beloved music teacher, Mr. Shaw, is retiring! He has been at our school for 25 years. He has actually been a teacher for 41 years total! That is a lot of music.

One of Mr. Shaw's strongest memories from teaching here is from when he first started here. The school was still being built! He said it was chaos. They were stuck in the old part of the building while the new part was going up. He said it was hard to teach with all the construction , but it was "interesting" to see the school grow. He had to be very creative back then.

Mr. Shaw started playing piano when he was in fourth grade. It is still his favorite instrument. But he also really likes the xylophone because you get to use mallets. He like percussion too, which is the stuff you get to hit!

When Mr. Shaw is not at school, he is a really good cook. He also loves to travel to the East Coast. He likes Maine and New Hampshire because you can see the ocean and the mountains at the same time.

It is hard for Mr. Shaw to pick just one favorite song. His favorite genres are jazz, Broadway, and pop. He is famous for singing a song called "Johnny One Note" from a show called Babes in Arms. If you see him in the hall, you should ask him about it!

"I'll miss being here, but it's time to do something new.” — Mr. Shaw

We will miss you, Mr. Shaw! Thank you for teaching us how to sing and play. Have fun cooking and going to the beach!
