Smith middle schoolers spent Thursday and Friday last week on a retreat, and they returned with a stronger bond and sense of community, ready to be leaders within our school.

They learned from one another as well as their teachers through team-building exercises and games 🎈

We are shocked and deeply saddened by the attack that took place this morning at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in south Minneapolis. Our hearts go out to Annunciation’s students, families, and staff, and to our Smith community members who are connected as friends, neighbors, and colleagues. We will be reaching out to Annunciation to offer support as they navigate this tragedy.

As we so often sing together, oseh shalom bimromav. G-d who makes peace on high, may G-d bring peace to the Annunciation community and to us during this tragic time.

At Smith Jewish Academy, we have a strong literacy curriculum, but more than that, we build community through reading — across grade levels and across our campus. Eighth graders read to their kindergarten buddies, and here are sixth graders reading to HaLev Early Childhood at the J children in the Smith library.

Are you enjoying the ponds and lakes this summer? 🔎 In May, our kindergartners, first graders, and second graders went to the Westwood Hills Nature Center for a pond study! They collected invertebrates from the pond and looked at them under a magnifier to learn all about them. 🔬🪱 On and off campus, we create engaging hands-on learning opportunities.
