Heilicher students have been learning about the Civil Rights Era in class, and in honor of the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Heilicher had a day of service last week in support of various organizations. Our students ...
🖍 sorted crayons for The Crayon Initiative, which recycles crayons for children in hospitals to use.
🛏 tied fleece blankets for My Very Own Bed, which provides new beds and linens to children who need them.
💌 made cards for isolated seniors, via Friends & Co.
🥧 made cards for Sweet Potato Comfort Pie to include with its pies as it uses "baketivism" to promote social change.
🍞 Our seventh grade students also went out into the community to help at PRISM. (More on that in our next post 👀)
Special shoutout to our eighth graders for leading their fellow students in the projects! And thank you to the parents who donated items, time, and skills to make these projects a success.

In addition to the service projects completed at Heilicher in honor of MLK Day, the seventh-grade class went to PRISM Golden Valley, MN to clean and prepare the food shelf for shoppers.
PRISM supports families in need with food, clothes, housewares, housing assistance, and the means for celebrating birthdays.

Running into the long weekend like ...
Shabbat shalom!

Math is everywhere, even in spaghetti! Algebra students tested the strength of spaghetti as they explored scatterplots and lines of best fit.

Heilicher is proud to partner with Sha'arim + Gateways. We provide hands-on vocational experience, and Shaina, our wonderful trainee, helps Chef Liz in the kitchen! Shaina has already been a great help, adding egg wash to the challot we sell and stocking the dining room with food for our students. Thank you, Shaina!

Fourth grade is proud to show off their art class sketchbooks. Check out some of their colorful art!

Do you have a rising kindergartener? The deadline to apply for 2025-2026 is this Wednesday, January 15! Please share with anyone you know who may be interested in any grade, K-8, at Heilicher.

We’re excited to get more snow for our recess sledding. Stay safe on the roads this weekend!

Our fifth-grade scientists demonstrated their knowledge of kinetic and potential energy by creating Mars rovers! They designed and built self-propelled rovers to transport rock samples across Mars using the engineering design process.

Our second annual Heilicher Alumni/Student Basketball Game was a slam dunk! 🏀 It was great to get together with current and former students and teachers — we're so grateful for this enduring community. 💙🧡💙🧡

Heilicher students get to practice all kinds of mediums in art class, including clay and glaze! First grade made clay animals and glazed them fun colors 🎨 #hmjdslions

The Great Heilicher Dreidel Spin-Off puts a spin on the classic dreidel game for the whole school to participate in. Students who spun their dreidels the longest advanced through the rounds.
Mazal tov to our finalists and winner, Oreen A. (Grade 2)!

First grade performed a Chanukah play, The Latke Is Too Big! It was complete with songs, a little Hebrew, and lots of giggles!
Kol hakavod (all honor/good job)! We can't wait to begin the Festival of Lights 🕎

Heading into winter break, we want to show our appreciation for all of the Heilicher teachers, administrators, and staff who have given their all this first part of the year.
They all got fun treats and gifts, and a few special teachers/administrators won raffle gift baskets!

The middle schoolers made bimuelos (Sephardic fried dough for Chanukah) for everyone to enjoy at All-School Lunch today. Todah rabbah! Thank you very much!
Third grade went to the Minnesota Zoo in preparation for the ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge. They learned about white-cheeked gibbons, met an armadillo, and took a class on developing enrichments to improve an animal's life at the zoo.
Some of our youngest community members joined us for a 🕎 Chanukah-themed 🕎 Heilicher Sunday Family Fun Day yesterday! They enjoyed festive crafts projects, sensory activities and holiday books with PJ Library. We had a full room full of schmoozing, refreshments, and fun!

Some of our students participated in a chess tournament and took home trophies. ♟🏆♟ Congratulations to both the fourth-grade and third-grade groups for winning first place!

Today we welcomed Beth El Aleph Preschool for a Taste of K! We enjoyed introducing the pre-kers to kindergarten with circle time and story time, song and movement in music class, and free play. We look forward to some of these students joining the Heilicher family next year!
